As Australia is about to make its first important step towards a zero carbon economy by introducing the carbon tax, debate still rages about whether this is the best way to go about reducing our emissions, and what impact it will have on our economy.
Ann Pettifor is a British economist and campaigner for justice and ecological sustainability. She’s a member of the Green New Deal working group in the UK, a group focused on working out practical ways to make the global economic system fairer and at the same time lead the transformation to sustainability. She told Catherine Zengerer that we can afford to move to a low carbon economy, with government help and a move to local manufacturing.
