One year on, Christchurch remembers

Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker addressed a 20,000 strong crowd in the city’s North Hagley Park this morning in a memorial service for the 185 people who died when Christchurch was hit by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake a year ago today. It’s the same park which on February 22, 2011 was set up as a triage centre to treat the injured as hospitals overflowed.

There were tears as all 185 names of the victims were read out by emergency services representatives. Catherine Zengerer speaks with New Zealand Correspondent, and Editor of online news site Scoop, Selwyn Manning, who covered the quake as it happened.
